More about His Eminence Nubpa Rinpoche

For this year's retreat, we are most fortunate that His Eminence Nubpa Rinpoche (1941 - present) will be leading us in the recitation. Rinpoche is an accomplished practitioner of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage, who has completed many solitary retreats of long periods of time in the mountains of Lapchi, and has also personally led and guided others in solitary retreats. Very recently, he has completed a 4-year solitary retreat in the mountain of Lapchi. This is his first trip to Singapore after his retreat. Rinpoche is well-versed in and thoroughly realized on the teachings of the Sutra text, Abhidharma and Mahamudra. H.E. Garchen Rinpoche has mentioned to us that Nubpa Rinpoche is the heart son of the late Mahasiddha, Venerable Drubwang Konchok Norbu Rinpoche and we should request the explanation of the Five-fold Path of Mahamudra from him. The Most Venerable Drubwang Rinpoche himself has also mentioned that Nubpa Rinpoche is an authentic practitioner of the Buddha's Dharma, whom we can trust to seek advice on our Dharma practice. Those who were most fortunate to have met and received teachings and help from Rinpoche would have experienced the trust, tranquility and true compassion that Rinpoche has emitted in his activities and conduct. More details about Rinpoche can be found at:

Content:

There are many facets to leading a happy life. It begins by
understanding the true and legitimate sources of happiness.

The Art of Happiness is based on a few basic premises:

1. The purpose of life is happiness;

2. Once a person’s basic needs are met, happiness is
determined more by the state of one’s mind than by one’s
external conditions, circumstances or events;

3. Happiness can be achieved through the systematic
training of our hearts and minds, through reshaping our
attitudes and outlook.

4. The key to happiness is in our own hands.
Drawing upon 2500 years of Buddhist wisdom and the latest
findings of modern science, this remarkable perspective offers a
practical approach to human happiness—a rational approach that
can be practised by individuals from any background, tradition or
religion.

Special Advice from H.E. Garchen Rinpoche

Below is an extract from Garchen Institute with a very Special Advice from our dear guru, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche on Long Life Practice on Dec 22 and how to protect guru's life:

Rinpoche requests the worldwide sangha to  recite long-life mantras on December 22 as much as our personal circumstance permits. In 2008 in the northern hemisphere, December 21 is the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight, and Rinpoche says that the next day, "when daylight and warmth begin to increase again," is a most powerful time for reciting long-life mantras.

He said we may recite the mantras of any of the three long-life deities, who are the same for all the Buddhist lineages—White Tara, Amitayus, and Namgyalma—but that it is sufficient to recite White Tara's mantra. He said that Namgyalma and Tara are basically the same deity, and that Namgyalma is especially powerful. He said she protects us from the eight great fears and from rebirth in the lower realms and that the benefit of practicing her mantra is immense, since she protects us in this and future lifetimes. She abides at the crown protuberance ("ushnisha" in Sanskrit) of the Buddha, and thus her Sanskrit name: Ushnishavijaya ("victorious crown protuberance").

In addition to praying for the long life of all, it is most auspicious that this gift of practice provides an extra and powerful opportunity to pray for Rinpoche's long life in anticipation of his long-life celebration on Losar. Rinpoche has told us that it is our sincere prayers that prolong his life, and he also gave the following precious teachings on the life span of the lama:

"Life span depends on love. So whether the life span of the lama will be long depends on whether his or her disciples have love and keep their samayas (vows). The basic samaya is the Bodhisattva vow, which the lama has given to his disciples. His disciples therefore all share a samaya of bodhichitta with each other and with the lama. If disciples quarrel and cause disharmony among the sangha, this will decrease the lama's life span. There are many stories of a great Tulku whose life was cut short because of disharmonious conduct by his disciples. If, however, we keep our samaya of bodhichitta toward our lama and all our sibling-disciples, it will increase the lama's life span. If we constantly quarrel and are miserable, this will decrease his life span as a result of our breached samaya."

Rinpoche's love for all mother sentient beings is immeasurable and unceasing, and may we constantly express our gratitude through loving kindness and harmonious relations with all.

Yours in dharma,

ABOUT GARCHEN RINPOCHE: His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche is the founder of Dri Thubten Dargye Ling Buddhist Centre. Rinpoche is a highly respected Drikung Kagyu lama who was known in the thirteenth century as the Siddha Gar Chodingpa, a heart disciple of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon, founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. In ancient India, he had incarnated as Mahasiddha Aryadeva, the lotus-born disciple of the great Nagarjuna and in the seventh century, he was known as Lonpo Gar, the minister of the Tibetan Dharma King Songsten Gampo. In this incarnation Garchen Rinpoche is deeply beloved by Buddhist practitioners around the world. In this age of strife, he has taken upon himself the responsibility of the pure transmission of loving kindness, compassion and wisdom.

Latest Activities Updates for Oct - Dec 2008

Latest Updates for Oct - Dec 2008

H.E Lati Rinpoche in Singapore

His Eminence Lati Rinpoche, Spiritual Teacher and Advisor of Drophenling (Gelugpa) Singapore, is already in Singapore for a series of Dharma activities.

This coming sat (25 oct) till sun (27 oct), His Eminence will be conducting a series of excellent and beneficial special pujas and empowerments for the benefits of Singaporeans and all mother sentient beings.

Do take a look at the website's program list: http://www.drophenling.com/ and see if you are interested.

I personally faithfully believe that they are indeed very beneficial and excellent activites. And especially on Monday, the Matreiya Buddha's Grand Puja is especially suggested and recommended by His Eminence Lati Rinpoche for us to create an imprint and connection with Matreiya Buddha so that we will become the future Buddha Matreiya's disciples when the time has ripened for the future Matreiya Buddha to appear on earth. I heard that for the Matreiya Buddha's Grand Puja, Drophenling has only prepared limited sets of about 1000 of offerings, so if u are interested, u might consider to register earlier on the first day on Sat. Of course, whichever it is, let's rejoice for all the Dharma activities and efforts!

Sakya Tenphenling activities

Next, in the coming December, the Sakya Tenphenling (or called Sakya Buddha Sasana Society or Sakya Temple in Pasir Ris Drive 4), they will also be having very beneficial and excellent activities for all. Such as the obstacles-clearing Mahakala Puja, Long Life and Merit-increasing White Tara Puja and Guru Rinpoche Puja; and also empowerments. All by Rinpoche and Monks from the Sakya-Dzong lineage/tradition. The Dec-Jan program is not out yet, hopefully out by this or next week, so do check out at the website later: http://www.sakyatenphelling.org/. They are also having Medicine Buddha's Grand Puja this week with a special Sand Mandala presentation. So if u are interested, check out the schedule.

OM Retreat by Drikung Kagyu

And of course, next coming up will be Drikung Kagyu's Om Retreat in Dec. Sure your have already known about this. But do encourage your friends to join in. For the benefits of sentient beings and the current chaotic world, let's join efforts to help in the Dharma ways. And as all of us know, combined efforts in chanting Om Mani Padme Hum, is oneof the best ways to help.

Life is impermanent. But how much do people or even ourselves remember that and ponder on that. Most people concentrate too much on acquiring possessions, money, etc on this life; and when the time comes for us to part and leave, how much possessions can we take along with us? .........Only white and black karma.

Hope to see your around somewhere in the coming months! :). Sure you will see me around if i see u around;)

Wish you well, happy and peaceful,

Peace and Blessings,
Tenzin Dhadron:).

Medicine Buddha Practice
26th October 2008, Sunday
10am to 12pm

Medicine Buddha is a Buddhist deity associated with the health and well-being of ourselves and others.

During this practice, we make heartfelt prayers that everyone will be healed of all suffering and sickness. Medicine Buddha is one of many buddhas who have attained the state of perfect enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. The enlightened mind has eliminated all negativity and perfected all positive qualities.

Medicine Buddha's blue sky-colored holy body signifies omniscient wisdom and compassion as vast as limitless space and is particularly associated with healing both mental and physical suffering.

Making a connection with him, practicing meditation, reciting his mantra or even just saying his name helps us achieve our potential for ultimate healing.

Drikung Protectors' Practice
Tibetan 29th
27th October 2008, Monday (Deepavali Holiday)
10am to 12pm

In Tibetan Buddhism, every practitioner of Vajrayana tradition requires lam, yidam and protectors. The main functions of dharma protectors are to avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent practitioners from attaining spiritual realizations, as well as to foster the necessary conditions for their practice. Dharmapāla can be Buddhas, Bodhisattvas or Dharmarajas (Damchen in Tibetan). Only the dharmapālas that have realized shunyata are seen as an object of Buddhist refuge.
